Top 5 Most Memorable Proposals on YouTube

YouTube has become a place for millions of users to upload funny, outrageous, and touching videos of themselves or others.  Many people have uploaded videos of some of life’s most important moments—including marriage proposals.  Some of the most memorable YouTube videos record the actual proposal, featuring both the boyfriend and girlfriend.  Others have been used by boyfriends as a way to pop the question to their girlfriends.

    Matt and Ginny
A recent marriage proposal that quickly went “viral” with over 19 million views features a young man named Matt who made elaborate plans involving his girlfriend’s brother, her father, and a movie theater.  Ginny’s brother invited her to go to a movie with him, unaware that Matt had made plans for the movie previews to be replaced with footage of him asking her father for her hand in marriage.  The video then shows Matt running to his car, speeding to the theater, and making his way (with a short stop at the snack bar) to propose to Ginny in the auditorium where she sits, watching all of this take place.  The thing that makes this video priceless is that we also get to see Ginny’s reaction in a small screen at the bottom of the video.

    Taking a Leap
Not all proposals are sweet, however.  When Josh proposed to Brooke, he did it using a shocking practical joke featuring an impressive stunt fall off of a tall building.  Standing on the edge of a rooftop deck, Josh begins his proposal.  But, when he asks his friend to toss him the ring, he lurches for it, falling backward out of sight.  When a gasping Brooke rushes to look over the side, she sees Matt lying safely in a large air cushion surrounded by large posters asking her to marry him.  Assuming she is able to forgive him for scaring her to death, surely she will appreciate his creativity!

    Up in the Air
One air traffic controller in Vancouver, Canada, surprised his girlfriend who was arriving on a flight from Montreal with a proposal made from the control tower.  As the plane taxied into the gate, the air traffic controller, encouraged by the plane’s pilots, was able to speak to his girlfriend over the plane’s radio and sound system, telling her of his love and making a romantic proposal.

    Puppet Proposal
It’s not easy figuring out a unique way to propose.  There aren’t too many girls who have received a proposal from a puppet, however.  In this surprisingly touching video, the gentleman making the proposal created “muppet” type puppet representations of himself and his girlfriend.  After showing important moments in their relationship, the male puppet kneels and proposes to the female puppet.  This is followed by a proposal in writing that appears on the screen.  Okay, it may be a little bit embarrassing to find yourself tearing up while watching a video featuring puppets.

    Game Show Proposal
This proposal, which occurred on the short-lived game show, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, is classic not only because of the unusual way in which it is done, but because of the reaction of the girlfriend receiving it.  The game show required its contestants to choose categories of songs whose lyrics they would try to identify.  After showing the female contestant’s boyfriend, Nathan Reid, sitting beside the stage, the contestant, named Gabrielle, chose the category “Motown.”  The two “song” names that appeared on the screen were “I Finally Got the Ring!” by Nathan Reid, and “Will You Marry Me?” by Nathan Reid.  After a moment of concentration, Gabrielle realizes what is going on and her reaction is everything Nathan could have hoped for.
