Top Ten Tips to Look Gorgeous on Your Wedding Day

Bridal Makeup Course

Applying your bridal makeup can be difficult if you do not have experience. However, by following these ten tips you will be looking gorgeous all day.

  1. Keep it matte! On your big day you’re going to have hundreds of photos taken of you, and face products with light reflecting particles will cast a strange glow in pictures. Wear foundation, powder, and concealers without sunscreen and keep any blushes and bronzers matte.
  2. Keep it natural! You want to look naturally beautiful on your wedding day, so keep your eye makeup pretty and natural. For lighter skintones, pale pinks, light peaches, and soft browns look amazing. If you have darker skin, stick to medium browns, pale golds, and light to medium pinks. A little shimmer on the eyes is a great way to enhance them, but don’t go overboard.
  3. Blush is your friend! Everyone has heard the cliché of a “blushing bride”, but blush will truly be your best friend on your wedding day. Lighter skintones can use light pinks and peaches, medium skintones look great with medium pinks and corals, and darker skintones glow with deep pinks and plums.
  4. Bat your lashes! False lashes are a great option for bridal makeup, and since they’re not everyday makeup necessities, even the most jaded makeup veteran can feel special and glamorous when wearing them. The most natural option is to use individual lashes. If you don’t want to use falsies, opt for a volumizing and lengthening mascara with a lash primer underneath.
  5. Contour! You don’t have to be a professional makeup artist to make your bone structure look perfect using makeup. Just follow the “E” “3” rule: With a dense brush, apply a matte bronzer a few shades darker than your skin to your face moving from temples to under cheekbones to under jaw in an “E” shape on the left side of your face and a “3” shape on the right side.
  6. Pucker up! At your wedding, you’ll be kissing, eating, drinking, and not worrying about your lipstick. To ensure your lip color will stay all day and night without needing any touch-ups, opt for a long-wearing lip product. Quick tip: Fill in your lips with lip liner before using lipstick. Then, blot and apply your lipstick again. If you want a glossy finish, dab a bit of lipgloss in the center of your lips to make them seem fuller.
  7. Make it last! To make sure your beautiful bridal makeup will last all day, apply a primer before your foundation. This will help keep your face looking flawless for hours to come. To help keep your eye makeup vibrant, use an eyeshadow base or primer before applying any eye makeup. You can also spritz your face with a makeup sealant spray for extra lasting power.
  8. Clear your skin! You want your skin to be radiant and glowing at your wedding, not red and irritated. Don’t try any new products or get any facial treatments for two weeks before your big day.
  9. Tightline! A quick trick to make your lashes look fuller is to tightline your eyes. Gently pull up your eyelid and use a creamy, waterproof black eyeliner that’s safe for your eyes to line the little flap of skin right below where your upper lashes meet your eye.
  10. Relax! You will look absolutely beautiful, so relax, have fun, and enjoy your big day. To keep yourself from worrying too much about makeup mishaps, carry a pack of blotting papers and an extra lipstick in your bag. If you’ve followed these tips, you’ll look radiant and have nothing to worry about. So smile and have a wonderful wedding!
