Beach Theme Weddings

Bring the feel of the tropics to the city

Beach Favors

There is something to be said for the ocean wind in your hair, the feel of warm sand beneath your feet and the sound of crashing of waves in the background. It is a perfect scene for any day, especially a wedding. Though this is a dream wedding for many brides, it is not always feasible when it comes to location and budget. For brides that are looking at creating beach theme weddings in the city, there are a few ways you can bring the serenity of the ocean right to your wedding venue.

Color Scheme

Your wedding colors for a beach theme should center on cool color combinations.  Use pastel colors such as sea foam green, baby blue and ivory as your main color palette and then accent with brightly colored flowers, such as the picture above of the Starfish Beach Wedding Collection Guest Book and Pen Set. Notice how the bright yellow in the daisies provides just the right amount of accent against the soft blues and whites. If you are going for a tropical theme wedding, try to use only one bright color and then pair it with a neutral tone, such as bright orange with off-white.

Flowers

Flowers for a beach wedding do not have to always be tropical in nature – it just depends on the direction you want to take the ceremony. If you are looking for more of a summer wedding feel, try using white or ivory flowers such as roses, calla lilies and hydrangea. If you are looking to add a more tropical theme, try adding in plumerias, orchids or stargazer lilies.

Centerpieces

Centerpieces are one of the easiest ways to decorate at a wedding and the first place to incorporate a beach theme. Keep in mind that a centerpiece is the focal point of your reception tables; therefore it needs to stand out and showcase the theme of your wedding. Try filling different size hurricane vases with sand, starfish and seashells and placing small beach theme lighthouse tea light holders around the outside, with small candles lit inside. Sprinkle the area just around the vase or centerpiece with faux sand and find twine or rope to place around the base of your vase.

Room Decorations

It is all the little extra details that really make a theme at a wedding. Consider creating a casual atmosphere that is more reminiscent of an island vacation than a yacht club. Decorate walls with old fishermen’s netting and fill wooden boxes with flowers and sand. Set out palm trees in corners of the venue and use sea shell place card holders at the table. When tying off napkins, use sea shell or starfish napkin rings. Sprinkle faux sand around buffet areas and add a few silver sea shells or wooden ship wheels to finish it off.

Cake and Food

The cake and the food are just as important as the wedding decorations. Work with a cake designer to create a beach themed wedding cake using pale, summer colors and gumpaste starfish and shells. Display it on a cake table surrounded by sea shells, or fill large hurricane vases with faux sand and place tea candles inside of them as a backdrop for the cake. Your cake designer can even create edible sand using crumbled brown sugar, and then write something fun in the “sand”. Top the cake with a tasteful  Starfish Beach Wedding Cake Top to create an elegant finish to your cake.

Serve beach-worthy foods such as grilled fish and meat, cold salads, and tropical drinks. You can even set up an ice cream sundae bar for everyone to create their own icy concoctions. Nothing says summer and beach as much as a cold ice cream! For favors, you can give each guest or couple a beach theme starfish ice cream scoop favor to use for years to come.
